Phone Scam Targets Registered Sex Offenders

MAYFIELD - State Police are warning the public about a recent phone scam.

The Kentucky State Police Post 1 in Mayfield says scammers are calling people in the area listed on the Kentucky Sex Offender Registry and telling them they are non-compliant. The scammers are reportedly asking the victims go to a local store and buy gift cards.

Investigators are advising anyone who gets a call like this to not give the caller any information or payment over the phone and not to call the number they provide.

Anyone who has been targeted in a scam like this is asked to contact your local law enforcement agency.
