Saturday's heavy rain more than doubled Paducah's previous record for the first day of June, and has already exceeded the usual amount received in the entire month.
The National Weather Service office at Barkley Field recorded 5.58 inches of precipitation Saturday, far more than the old record of 2.61 inches set in 1971.
For perspective, Paducah usually receives an average of 4.06 inches during the entire month of June.
