A safety checkpoint over the weekend resulted in drug and DUI charges for a Melber man.

The Carlisle County Sheriff’s Office and the Ballard County Sheriff’s Office conducted a safety checkpoint Friday on Highway 62, near the Carlisle/Ballard county line. A deputy reportedly saw 38-year-old Brett Reed driving erratically.

The deputy stopped the vehicle and Reed allegedly admitted that he had been drinking alcoholic beverages. He was given field-sobriety tests and was ultimately arrested for operating a motor vehicle under the influence.

Deputies conducted a search and reportedly found marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Reed was cited on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
