One location was Murray, where only one-tenth of an inch of rain fell all month. That's the lowest amount since record keeping began in 1926. The previous monthly dry mark in Murray was .18 inches in 1963.
Several other sites in the region also set new lows, according to the Western Kentucky University Mesonet network of weather stations. They include Calhoun, KY where no measurable rain fell in September; Madisonville, KY with .03 inches; and in Indiana, Evansville and Boonville with .08 and 0.11 inches.
Eight other western Kentucky Mesonet stations also measured a tenth or less, but have only been online for a few years.
In Paducah, one rain shower last week resulted in .11 inches at Barkley Field, making this the 11th-driest September since 1937.
