The latest word of nationwide store closures includes a chain with several locations in our area.

KYTN reports that Fred’s announced Thursday it will close 159 stores in 13 states by the end of May, including Kentucky stores in Murray, Princeton and Hopkinsville. In west Tennessee, the list includes Clarksville, Paris, Dyersburg, Medina, and Jackson.

In southern Illinois, the Benton location will close, along with southeast Missouri Fred's stores in Cape Girardeau and Poplar Bluff.

Additionally, "clearance blowout" sales will be held in an 360 other stores. Only seven per cent of Fred's store roster will not be involved in some sort of closure or inventory reduction.

The Memphis-based retailer said that it retained investment banking advisory firm P.J. Solomon to assess its options “to maximize value,” and hired liquidation firms Malfitano Advisors and SB360 Capital Partners “to help manage the process and ensure a seamless experience for customers.”
