The Calloway County Sheriff's Office says a woman called 911 Wednesday afternoon and said her one-year-old child had been found in a pond near her home and was not breathing. Deputies and EMS were dispatched to the home, and CPR instructions were given to the caller over the phone.
CPR was performed by the first arriving deputy until EMS arrived and assumed care of the child. The child was transported by ambulance to Murray-Calloway County Hospital and then air-lifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN for further treatment.
On Thursday, the sheriff’s office was notified by the Vanderbilt University Police Department that the child had died. An investigation is ongoing by the Calloway County Sheriff’s Office.
