A Marshall County Sheriff's Department Corporal has been honored for saving a person's life.

Marshall County Sheriff Eddie McGuire congratulated Corporal Robert Johnson for receiving this year's first Letter of Commendation award, for being a Lifesaver. The award was recommended to the Sheriff by Sergeant Cory Curtner.

Corporal Johnson was active on patrol during the late-night hours of February 25th, and while patrolling the "Little Jonathan Creek" boat ramp, he observed a person who was soaking wet standing outside their car.

He immediately recognized this as a medical emergency due to the frigid temperatures. Through a brief investigation, Corporal Johnson identified the person had gone into the river in an attempt to take their life.

Johnson's care and compassion for the person's well being, along with his swift action, was likely a contributing factor in saving the person's life.

Sheriff McGuire commended Corporal Johnson on his pro-active patrol efforts, and his exemplary poise and composure, to bring this life-threatening event to a safe conclusion.
