A speeding violation escalated into drug charges and DUI for a Marshall County man on Tuesday.

Deputy Nathan Maxlow saw a vehicle on Highway 68 traveling at a high rate of speed, and pulled it over. When he spoke to the driver, he smelled marijuana, and the driver could not provide proof of insurance.

A search of the vehicle revealed pieces of marijuana and a pipe with residue under the seat. Maxlow also found a prescription bottle for Hydrocodone that had been filled that day, but 5 pills were already gone.

Maxlow arrested 22-year-old Jericho Nelson of Calvert City, charging him with DUI, speeding 15 mph over the limit, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, failure to maintain insurance and failure to provide an insurance card. He was taken to Marshall County Detention Center.
