Larry Seay, owner of Seay Motors in Mayfield, for the second straight year will give away a vehicle in a drawing to a student of Mayfield or Graves County high schools who meets the attendance requirements.

At the beginning of the 2017-18 school year, Seay and both high schools announced that Seay Motors will provide free chances to win a sport utility vehicle for students with perfect attendance for a nine-weeks period. The more nine-weeks perfect attendance periods a student earns, the more times his or her name will be entered in the drawing. Attendance periods are based on quarters of the school year; therefore, with perfect attendance for the entire year, such a student's name would enter the drawing four times.

Mayfield High School student Griselda Ramirez won a car at the end of the 2016-17 school year. The drawing was held at Seay Motors among five Mayfield and five Graves County students whose names were drawn at random. Each of the other student finalists received consolation prizes.

Administrators at both high schools and both school districts praised Seay for providing an excellent incentive for students to develop good attendance habits. Good attendance, they say, is valuable not only for school, but also for the workforce.

Seay said he has targeted his entire school advertising and contribution budgets to this project for those same reasons. He said the two school systems are extremely valuable assets to the community and investment in the future in their own right.
