Marshall County Sheriff's Department received a complaint, and responded to the parking lot of Ponderosa in Draffenville, where he encountered the people described, who showed signs of being under the influence. The deputy spoke to 45-year-old Kenneth E. Dalton of Kevil, who was behind the wheel of his vehicle. He admitted driving to the restaurant, and that he had taken several different controlled substances. He was arrested for DUI.
A passenger in the vehicle, 54-year-old Dorris J. Spees of Kevil, was arrested for public intoxication by a controlled substance. An empty prescription bottle was found with her name on it, and it had been filled on July 21. Another pill bottle with Dalton's mother's name on it was found under a seat, and a cigarette case containing several pills was also located. Spees was also charged with possession of a controlled substance 3rd degree, and not having a controlled substance in the proper container.
Another person, 37-year-old Melissa K. Thomasson of Paducah was arrested for public intoxication. All three were taken to Marshall County Detention Center.
