A Wickliffe man was arrested Tuesday on drug trafficking charges after a traffic stop behind Ballard County Elementary School.

The Ballard County Sheriff's Department says deputies stopped the vehicle because they were aware that the driver, 50-year-old Billy E. Crews, had a previous warrant for his arrest.  The Ballard County K-9, Kony, was called in and made a positive alert to the driver's side of the vehicle. Deputies allegedly found 12.5 grams of suspected methamphetamine inside the vehicle, as well as several items of drug paraphernalia, electronic scales, and bagging equipment.

Crews was arrested and charged with first degree possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), first degree trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), trafficking in a controlled substance within 1000 feet of a school, possession of drug paraphernalia, and prescription medication not in the proper container.

He was lodged in the Ballard County Detention Center.
