Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin has confirmed that two people have died, and 19 people were injured in a shooting Tuesday morning at Marshall County High School.

Bevin said at a press conference Tuesday afternoon that one of the victims, a 15-year-old girl, died at the scene. A second victim, a 15-year-old boy died later at a hospital. Nineteen other students were injured in the attack, 14 by gunshot and five by other means. All of the victims were reportedly students at the school. Six students were airlifted to regional trauma centers for treatment.

Kentucky State Police Lieutenant Michael Webb confirmed that a 15-year-old male student has been arrested, and police say he will be charged with murder and attempted murder. He is the only suspect in the attack, which began at 7:57 am.

Agents with the FBI and ATF are assisting KSP with the investigation.

Names of the victims and suspect are not being released at this time.

Bevin said he is grateful to first responders, and asked that everyone respect the families of the victims during this difficult time.

"This is a wound that is going to take a long time to heal, and for some in this community will never fully heal," Bevin said. "That is going to take a process of time and respect, and I'm asking you please to respect these families."
