Union, Graves Co. Report Over 20 New COVID Cases

Area health Departments have released new information about COVID-19 cases, with Union County, Illinois and Graves County appearing as hot spots. 

The Southern Seven Health Department says 25 new cases were diagnosed, with 22 of them in Union County. One new case each was reported in Hardin, Massac and Pulaski Counties. These cases range in age from teens of both genders to a man in his 60s.

One new death was also reported in Union County - a woman in her 70s. This brings the death toll in the Southern Seven region to 19 people.

Health officials say the virus is being spread at social events and gatherings, and anyone who has attended events where safety measures were not used should watch for symptoms, which include fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea.

The Graves County Health Department confirmed 25 new cases, bringing their total to 515 people since the pandemic began. Two of the the new cases are in the hospital and the rest are isolating at home. Twenty-two people have died from the virus in Graves County. 

“Close to 1% of our population here in our county tested positive for COVID-19 during the month of July. We need to keep our guard up even when we are around people that we know.” said Graves County Health Department Director Noel Coplen.

On Monday, the Purchase District Health Department announced twelve new cases of the virus in McCracken, nine new cases in Fulton, five new cases in Hickman, six new cases in Carlisle, and one new case in Ballard County. 

The new cases include five children, four teenagers, five people in their 20's, five people in their 30's, three people in their 40's, two people in their 50's, eight people in their 60's, and one person in their 70's.

The new cases bring McCracken County's total number of cases to 329, Ballard 37, Carlisle 38, Hickman 37, and Fulton 56. Ballard County Emergency Management announced two cases on Monday instead of one, and said the new case total is 38.

The Calloway County Health Department reports three new cases, and the county's fourth COVID-19-related death. The total number of cases in Calloway County since the pandemic began is 191. 

The Pennyrile District Health Department confirmed five new cases, with one in Caldwell county and four in Trigg County. These cases range from a 6-year-old girl to a 67-year-old man.

Caldwell County now has 52 cases, Trigg County has 49, Livingston County has 33, Lyon County has 31, and Crittenden County has 27.

The Marshall County Health Department reported five new cases on Monday, with patients ranging in age from 19 to 55 years old. There have been 131 cases and three deaths in Marshall County.
