A body recovered from the Mississippi River has been identified as an Illinois man.
According to Cape Girardeau County Coroner Craig Williams, the body was identified as 52-year-old Shane Barendregt of Fairmont City, Illinois.
He said the cause of death is undetermined pending an autopsy on Thursday.
According to Illinois State Police, Barendregt fell into the river after a chase involving officers in St. Louis on April 16.

Cape Girardeau police confirmed that a body was recovered from the Mississippi River.
Police say they received a call about a body discovered in the river north of Cape at around 9 a.m. on Tuesday.
Cape Girardeau Police and Fire responded to the Red Star boat ramp, and multiple marine response crews were launched into the river.
Officials said the victim was identified, but information was not released pending notification of family.
