A small earthquake was picked up by sensors in northwest Tennessee early Saturday morning.

According to the US Geological Survey at the University of Memphis, the 2.1 magnitude quake took place at 3:48 am. It was centered about 5.6 miles north-northeast of Tiptonville, and 21.6 miles west of Union City, near the Mississippi River, just south of the Kentucky state line.
