Dominican native charged after potential scam toward local banks

A Dominican native has been charged after attempting a potential scam on several local bank branches.

McCracken County Sheriff’s deputies were called at about 4 p.m. Friday after Citizens Deposit Bank staff became suspicious of a man who came into the Kevil location with a duffel bag, trying to open an account. The man presented an ID from the Dominican Republic and a reportedly fraudulent McCracken County address. He fled the bank before deputies arrived.

Their investigation revealed that the Dominican man, later identified as Simei Acosta-Fabian, had attempted the same thing at other banks in McCracken and Ballard County. A short time later, Acosta-Fabian showed up at a Citizens Deposit Bank branch in Carlisle County. Carlisle County Sheriff’s deputies quickly arrived and detained him.

Acosta-Fabian is said to have admitted to trying to open accounts at several locations with fraudulent information. He was arrested and charged with forgery in Carlisle County. A McCracken County detective then drove him to the McCracken County Regional Jail, where he was charged with forgery in McCracken County as well.

Acosta-Fabian is said to have come to Paducah from Trenton, New Jersey, to try to open the fraudulent accounts.
