An investigation is underway at Eddyville's Kentucky State Penitentiary concerning an officer being stabbed by an inmate.

According to the Kentucky State Police, detectives were called to the penitentiary on Friday afternoon after a report of an inmate assaulting a lieutenant.

KSP said 57-year-old Sean Noakes of Florence allegedly stabbed Lieutenant Zabulon Pierre with a sharp object. Lt. Pierre was treated at a local hospital and released.

Noakes is incarcerated at the Kentucky State Penitentiary for a murder conviction from Boone County.

He has also been convicted of three additional felony assault charges for incidents that have happened while being incarcerated at the penitentiary.

The investigation will be presented to a Lyon County Grand Jury.
