Murray Independent breaks ground on new elementary school

Murray Independent Schools broke ground on Wednesday on a new elementary school.

The new Murray Elementary School will be located at the corner of Doran Road and Wiswell Road. The event took place Wednesday afternoon at the site, just a few miles southwest of the current location at Poplar Street off South Broach Avenue. The official groundbreaking took place just after 4:30 p.m.

The event was open to the public and gave the opportunity for families to take part and turn a shovel as well. In addition to the photo ops, there were refreshments and Kona Ice for the kids.

The new school is projected to open in August of 2028.
