According to surveys conducted Monday by the National Weather Service office at Barkley Field, four brief tornadoes were spawned by Saturday's storms, including near Ledbetter and Brookport.
The Massac County tornado was determined to be an EF-1 with peak winds of 93 miles per hour. It was only on the ground for about two minutes, with a path 75 yards wide. At 6:14 pm, it touched down 1 mile northwest of Brookport along Strawberry Road. It snapped several tree trunks along with producing some damage to the front awning of one house. It continued east, crossing Hwy 45 and snapped one more tree along Pell Road before lifting.
The Livingston County tornado was actually a waterspout along the Tennessee River, two miles east of Ledbetter. Video documentation showed a funnel formed for about a minute at 5:27 pm, traveling only about a quarter mile. No damage was documented. Meteorologists classified it as EF-U, or undetermined intensity.
The other two tornadoes were EF-0s near the Indiana towns of Poseyville and Lynnville.
