A new scam has been reported in southern Illinois and west Tennessee.
According to the Johnson County Sheriff's Office, a resident received a call from a person identifying themself as "Deputy Kevin Douglas", with the Sheriff's Office. They went on to say the person had missed jury duty and was subject to arrest.
The Sheriff's Office says they have no deputy by that name, and they will never call anyone to inform them of a warrant, or to demand immediate action over the phone.
Meanwhile, 90 miles south in Union City, a similar scam has been reported by the Obion County Sheriff's Office.
Law enforcement stresses that scammers many times will use fear and urgency to pressure victims into complying with their demands.
Both the Johnson County and Obion County Sheriff's Offices request anyone that receives such a call to notify them of it, and as always, never give out trusted information over the phone to anyone that is not known.
