After the cooler weekend, our temperatures have returned to above normal, and that'll be the case through Thursday.
In fact, there is a decent chance of record highs on Monday and Tuesday, and possibly some record warm lows.
The average high for Paducah this week is 73 degrees, but Monday and Tuesday could see highs of 90 and 92, respectively. Both would break Monday's record high of 89, set in 1938, and Tuesday's record of 89, set in 1989.
Even on Wednesday, the forecast high of 90 would knock over the mark of 88 for the date, last reached in 2017. The latest date of the year that Paducah has reached 90 degrees is October 19, reached on that date in 1938.
That heat bubble will soon burst, though, when rain chances return Tuesday night and increase on Wednesday. Lesser chances will continue through Thursday and taper off by Friday morning.
Right now there are some early indications of potential severe weather with the frontal system, but uncertainty remains high at this point.
The temperature pendulum will swing quickly back next weekend. Saturday could see highs around 10 degrees below average in the upper 50s to low 60s.
Paducah's low for next Sunday is forecast so far at 37 degrees. That would not challenge the 1976 record low of 27.
But a low of 36 next weekend could bring formation of the first frost of the season. That would be right on time for Paducah's average date for first frost (at 36 degrees) of Oct. 13, and the first freeze (at 32 degrees) of Oct. 26.
