Mayfield man charged after assaulting and kidnapping a woman

A Mayfield man has been arrested and charged with kidnapping and assault after reportedly holding a woman against her will at his home.

Just before 2 a.m. Wednesday, a woman called the Graves County Sheriff's Office from a neighbor's home after escaping from her alleged captor. The woman told the neighbors and deputies that she had been assaulted by a man she identified as 41-year-old Michael West of Mayfield. The woman said that she had been assaulted and held in West's car and home since Tuesday evening. She told them that after West fell asleep, she was able to escape. 

The woman was taken to Jackson Purchase Medical Center to be treated. She has since been released from the hospital and is recovering. 

Deputies returned to West's home later with a search warrant knowing that he had two outstanding warrants out of Graves District Court. Deputies were unable to coax West from the home, so at about 9 a.m. they entered the home. Deputies found West hiding inside and arrested him on charges of kidnapping with serious physical injury and assault. He also faces the charges in the two warrants. 

West was booked into the Christian County Jail.
