Mosquito Spray Goes Airborne Tonight

EDDYVILLE, KY - Spray planes will be airborne tonight over Lyon County, in the latest efforts to eliminate the summer mosquito problem.
Lyon County Judge-Executive Wade White reports that the spraying operation will commence late Friday night. The planes will cover close to a 2.5-mile radius around Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake, covering Lyon, Marshall, Livingston, and Trigg Counties.
White says the effect should be immediate and people on the ground shouldn't notice the spray but will notice the planes.
State mosquito authorities believe the mosquitoes are orginating around the lake and then moving deeper into the counties.
Agriculture Commissioner James Comer said, “This operation is the result of a lot of hard work by the department, other agencies, and our partners in the private sector. If the weather cooperates, citizens and tourists near the lakes soon will see some relief from this year’s severe mosquito infestation.”
Judge White expressed his appreciation for how the state agricultural office jumped on his request for the airborne spraying. He says its "great timing before our weekend starts and the upcoming July 4 holiday."
