Man Arrested After Hospital Assaults, Threats

SALEM, KY - Livingston County Hospital and Healthcare Services in Salem was under lockdown for most of Friday, until a man who allegedly assaulted three people and threatened others was arrested.
Livingston County Sheriff's Department responded early Friday morning, after getting a call that said a man was acting strangely, and had assaulted employees. He was identified as 26-year-old Kenneth Brian Fitzgerald of Marion, who had been at the hospital with his girlfriend. By the time law enforcement arrived, Fitzgerald was no longer there.The hospital was locked down after he called Friday morning and made threats, with patients and visitors being escorted in and out of the building by Deputies and State Troopers.
After tracking the signal from Fitzgerald's cell phone, he was found in a wooded area on Mill Bluff Road near Fredonia. State Police, along with the Caldwell and Crittenden County Sheriff's Departments, began negotiations with Fitzgerald, who was eventually taken into custody.
Marijuana and two semi-automatic rifles were found at the arrest scene. Fitzgerald is charged with 3 bench warrants for assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, trafficking in marijuana - more than 5 pounds, and resisting arrest.
